Lead Senior Electrical Design Engineer

The Connected Sensing Venture is designed to serve and enable our HealthTech customers and Philips businesses to capture the emerging value in the increasingly digital, connected world of wearable monitoring. The venture will work to collaborate across HealthTech to re-imagine, develop and deliver connected sensing solutions for our professional customers.

Key Area of Responsibilities:

The Lead Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be a key member of the technical staff on the Product Development team in the Connected Sensing Venture, providing leadership to the Electrical Engineering team.

  • Provide guidance to the team in the application of state of the art techniques developing very low-power, battery powered circuit assemblies with a mixture of analog, digital and RF circuitry for highly integrated, low power sensor/RF embedded designs

  • Design activities will include specification development, schematic design, component selection, FMEA analysis, tolerance analysis, prototype development, and design verification testing

  • Create and maintain documentation for requirements, designs, test plans/reports, summaries for development projects and tasks

  • Plan and execute electronics verification activities including specification and design reviews, simulation, functional testing, EMC testing and ad hoc debugging

  • Maintain electrical engineering procedures and environment as required. Activities include work instruction preparation, electronics-tools qualification and validation, and configuration of development environment

  • Assist and/or direct electronics vendors to create electronics prototypes

  • Plan and execute hardware qualification activities

  • Actively participate on cross-functional project teams through all phases of product development to ensure successful execution of innovative, best-in-class designs

Essential Requirements

  • BS degree in electrical engineering

  • Minimum ten years engineering / R&D experience in a rigorous quality-focused environment

  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to work independently given high-level direction

  • Experience designing patient monitoring systems including ECG, SpO2, etc. front ends

  • Experience working on projects involving portable, low-power products incorporating wireless communication solutions such as Bluetooth LE, Wi-Fi, NFC, etc.

  • Superior debugging and/or troubleshooting skills

  • Proven ability to produce high quality design outputs in a timely manner

  • Excellent requirements, specification, test plan/report writing skills

  • Knowledge of product development methodologies and best practices

  • Knowledge of verification and validation testing methodologies

  • Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional and cross-organizational relationships

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Requirements

  • MS degree in electrical engineering

  • Understanding of US and international regulatory requirements for medical devices, including applicable electrical safety and EMC regulations for medical devices

  • Agile development

  • LEAN/Six Sigma certification or experience

In this role, will leverage ultra-low-power circuit assemblies, a mixture of analog, digital and RF circuitry, state of the art sensor technology and RF designs to architect, build, verify and validate the next generation of medical wearable electronics.

You are responsible for:

The Lead Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be a key member of the technical staff on the Product Development team providing leadership to the Electrical Engineering team.

  • Leading R&D- design and development of wearable electronics using mixed signal- analog and digital techniques

  • Leveraging previous experience in sensing systems including ECG, SpO2, etc.

  • Leveraging your experience working on projects involving portable, low-power products incorporating wireless communication solutions such as Bluetooth LE, Wi-Fi, NFC, etc.

  • Working with cross-functional teams to define electronic system based on system-level requirements and tradeoffs.

  • Leading part/component selection, process development, qualification and validation

  • Prototyping electronic system designs quickly with in-house teams and support from vendors, including integration hardware and firmware.

  • Providing characterization and test of designed electronic system.

  • Activities will include specification development, schematic design, component selection, FMEA analysis, tolerance analysis, prototype development, and design verification testing

  • Planning and oversee electronics verification activities including specification and design reviews, simulation, functional testing, EMC testing and ad hoc debugging

  • Actively participating on cross-functional project teams through all phases of product development to ensure successful execution of innovative, best-in-class designs

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

Essential Requirements

  • BS degree in electrical engineering

  • Minimum five years engineering / R&D to product experience in a rigorous quality-focused environment

  • Demonstrated working experience and accomplishments with electronics hardware and software- analog/digital, sensors/actuators, power management and wireless communications. Developed, selected and qualified sensors for both implantable device function and for measuring physiological parameters

  • Participated as a key member of EE and Product Development groups with a hands-on, leadership- by-example approach in a leadership role as team leader, project manager leading, managing and developing other experienced and accomplished team members to plan and meet milestones

  • Experience designing patient monitoring systems including ECG, SpO2, etc. front ends

  • Experience working on projects involving portable, low-power products incorporating wireless communication solutions such as Bluetooth LE, Wi-Fi, NFC, etc.

  • Previous experience with medical, wearable, health, wellness, and/or fitness sensors, devices, and applications

  • Good understanding of non-invasive sensors used to measure biological signals

  • Thorough understanding of measurement principles, sensors, and instrumentation

  • Superior debugging and/or troubleshooting skills

  • Proven ability to produce high quality design outputs in a timely manner

  • Excellent requirements, specification, test plan/report writing skills

  • Knowledge of medical device development methodologies and best practices

  • Knowledge of medical device verification and validation testing methodologies

  • Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional and cross-organizational relationships
