Your challenge

As the Lead for the Digital Team in Cambridge and Andover you are responsible for the creative output of your design team. You make sure the team aims for the highest quality outcome of every project. You and your team work on various aspects of Philips digital and connected products and propositions, both internal and external facing websites, and mobile apps.

Besides a creative responsibility you are also the manager of the team. You make sure the team works effectively and efficiently. You decide on who works on which projects and you also engage with freelancers and external agencies to deliver all projects. Together with the project managers you manage the workload for the team and look ahead at what work lies ahead.

In support of the Design teams working for the Philips businesses, you are the primary face of the digital team towards stakeholders and project commissioners. You maintain and build relationships, you stay in touch with what is top of mind in the business and make sure Philips Design plays the key role it has to fulfil.

Lastly, you are together with key stakeholders in Philips Design worldwide developing the digital design competence. By being a thought leader, internally and externally, introducing new developments, methods, tooling, etc. in the community worldwide, and supporting Design Management in organizing the capability globally.

Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for the creative output of the team and aim for the highest possible outcome

  • You are responsible for making sure all creative work is of high quality and on brand

  • You are manager of the team and all team members will report to you directly

  • You develop the digital capability, skills and knowledge wise

  • You manage the design processes used by your team and are on the constant lookout for improvement

  • You maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • You stay up to date with the latest design trends and relevant technological advances

Your team

The Digital design team is part of Philips Design and aims to set direction and support Philips on all aspects of digital media in marketing, product/service development, consumer support and social media. We seek to build the best brand experiences throughout the entire consumer journey and focus specifically on all digital aspects. We are a growing team of world-class designers who work on a variety of projects together with our colleagues from marketing, sales, product development, IT and various external agencies. The team is based in Cambridge and Andover, MA.

We are looking for

  • You have at least 10 years of working experience as an Art Director, Information Architect, Interaction Designer, or User Experience Designer

  • You have demonstrable experience in managing creative teams

  • You have worked with various international brands

  • You are passionate about the internet, web design, mobile design and all things digital

  • You enjoy staying up to date on the latest trends and developments

  • You inspire others and are always open to suggestions of others

  • You have experience in innovation and are a master in applying creative thinking methods

  • You have master level education in Industrial Design, Interaction Design or other related fields

  • You have solid time-management and prioritization skills that allows you to distinguish the urgent from the important

  • You are able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously

  • You have excellent verbal and written skills in English

  • You have experience with typical design and prototype tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Axure, Flinto and framer

  • You have a basic understand of programming languages such as HTML/CSS/Java

The Team lead Manages & coaches the Local Design The design teams are either location or application area specific. The team lead is responsible for a clear “raison d'être’ of the team, team composition and future planning. Is a thought leader in the area of competence. Provides the required conditions for the wellbeing of the people in the team to energize and engage; to develop professionally; and to grow as an empowered community.


Responsible for managing the day to day operation of the local design team

Develop and hold a clear position on the delivery (methodology, process, capabilities, network, etc.) in the assigned area.

Ensure optimal effectiveness and utilization of the design team (ICW resource and Project mgr)

Ensure the right capability (capabilities gaps, unique external network)

Ensure the best infrastructure (roles, process methods and Tools ) for the team to deliver compliant with end2end approach

Responsible for people management of the local design team;

Supervises, hires and fires, develops, coaches and evaluates team members to ensure an efficient delivery and development of the team

Be the aspirational people leader ensuring team engagement (eg inspiring environment)

Facilitate cross functional team cooperation and remove barriers across Health Continuum

Actively participates in people strategy;

Strategic workforce (team) planning

Talent review

AOP consolidation

PPM Calibration & target setting

Act as thought leader within the respective competence

Take intriguing positions on specific application areas and competences

Represent the competence to ensure outside-in views & knowledge
