Philips Senior Research Scientist - Machine Learning (Healthcare) in Cambridge, Massachusetts

As the Research Scientist you will:

  • Perform data analytics and develop novel algorithms

  • Interact with clinical customers to understand their problems, share insights and best practices, and validate prototypes of solutions to assess their value in patient care.

  • Partner with Philips business groups to deliver innovations in a timely and high-quality manner.

We are looking for The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. in computer sciences, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. The candidate is expected to have research experience working on novel applications for use in hospital and home patient care settings.The candidate will demonstrate excellent capabilities in:

  • Data modeling, analytics and visualization

  • Data mining and machine learning

  • Algorithm design, implementation

  • Physiological signal processing

  • Excellent programming skills in Python

  • Matlab/Simulink modeling

  • Knowledge of human physiology

  • Knowledge of healthcare industry

  • Publishing scientific papers and presenting at scientific conferences

  • Excellent oral and written communication skillsSkills and experience in some of the following areas would be a plus:

  • High performance computing using Hadoop, cloud infrastructure, or related technology

  • Assessment of drug effectiveness and adverse drug events

  • Government grant applications

  • Database technologies

  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams

In this role, you have the opportunity to

Drive healthcare research for real time diagnostic and therapeutic decision support applications through big healthcare data analytics, predictive modeling, precision medicine, and outcome management.

You are responsible for

  • Developing algorithms to challenge the state-of the art in Machine Learning for healthcare

  • Engaging with AI champions in the larger research / industry community to position Philips as an AI trailblazer.

  • Creating clinical decision support tools to transform patient care by improving efficiency

  • Developing models for multi-model learning with physiological data, molecular data, and medical imaging

You are a part of

A team of dedicated researchers at Philips Research North America in Cambridge, MA. The team interacts with clinical customers to understand their problems, share insights and best practices, and validate prototypes of solutions to assess their value in patient care. The team has used these clinical insights to develop solutions that have been transferred to several Philips business units. We collaborate with leading institutions (MIT, Beth Israel, etc.).

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or closely related field

  • 5+ years research experience working on novel Machine Learning applications for use in hospital and home patient care settings.

  • Expertise in Applied Machine Learning, Neural Networks and Deep learning

  • Software programming in Python, C# (or C++), Java and knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Understanding of software engineering principles

  • Track record of scientific publications and presentation at scientific conferences

  • Project planning and project management

  • Physiological signal processing or knowledge of human physiology (strong plus)

  • High performance computing using Hadoop, cloud infrastructure, or related technology (plus)
