Philips Cartridge Development Engineer in Eindhoven, Netherlands

Your challenge

As Cartridge Development Engineer you in a very multidisciplinary environment of teams that develop point-of-care medical diagnostics systems consisting of analyzer hardware, microfluidic disposables, software and integrated bio-chemical assay applications. Your main responsibility will be the development of the microfluidic cartridge and the development of related manufacturing process to enable integration of a biological assay in the cartridge.

Your responsibilities

  • Development of a disposable micro fluidic cartridge for in-vitro-diagnostics applications (blood cartridges)

  • Development of cartridge related manufacturing processes that allow a good fluidic behavior and the integration of biological assays (e.g. surface hydrophilization, application of coatings, etc.).

  • Plan and carry out (micro fluidic and process) experiments to develop and evaluate new designs.

  • Analysis of micro fluidic structures (theoretical analysis, fit with experimental data).

  • Provide technical input to 3rd party suppliers of plastic parts, filters, tools/equipment, coatings, etc

  • Characterization of parts (flatness, roughness, dimensions, hydrophilicity, micro-scale features, optical properties, thermo-mechanic properties, etc.)

  • Contribute to setting up a high-volume manufacturing line for the disposable cartridge.

  • Support technical discussions with 3rd party development partners

  • Participate in the product creation process.

  • Participate in field trials, alpha/beta testing and verification: define corrective and improvement actions

  • Gathering user needs and work with system architect on definition and translation to functional requirements taking into account the interfaces with manufacturing, assay and analyzer

We are looking for

  • A MSc or PhD degree in technical engineering (physics, biomedical, mechatronics, electronics), preferably with experience and interest in biochemistry and process engineering.

  • At least 5+ (and preferably 10+) years of industrial experience in complex system development and integration or similar multidisciplinary role, preferably in In-Vitro Diagnostics or Medical Device industry.

  • A hands-on, self-employed mentality, in combination with strong analytical skills and pragmatic

  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team: colleagues have backgrounds in physics, chemistry, electronics and fluidics.

  • Commitment to achieving goals and a structured way of working

  • Flexibility to take up challenges in different areas in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Experience with working in a project structure

  • Experience with Product Creation and Quality Processes

  • Strong in reporting and documenting your findings, and design review

  • Have good communication and reporting skills in Dutch and English
