The Principal Architect Thin Film and MEMS drives innovative solutions for complex thin film applications and products. He/She initiates and defines new process flows, architectures and platforms, and is technically responsible for the end-to-end development of integral thin film processes, from idea to release for volume manufacturing. Your main responsibilities include:
Leading the creative process to build optimal process architectures, and extendable and easy-to-maintain thin film process modules;
Negotiating integral architectural tradeoffs with multiple internal stakeholders and external parties (customers, suppliers, and partners);
Managing concept creation of thin film and MEMS processes;
Developing and owning one or more key thin film and MEMS platforms;
Being technically responsible for the thin film process flow in (sub-)projects.
Ensuring the mutual consistency and efficient integration of the separate thin film process modules that meets the product specification;
Guiding the (senior) development engineers in the process design and implementation of the process modules;
Determining the required process modules in close consultation with technical process experts (process engineers);
Defining areas of competence development in the thin film technology area;
Identifying opportunities for thin film application or products and realizing these opportunities;
Influencing and/or making considerable contributions to the customers’ product and technology roadmaps;
Acquiring assignments for projects of 5-10 man-years;
The Process Development & Integration group focusses on the realization of integral (flowchart) solutions in the application fields of MEMS, sensors, actuators and other devices. A key focus area is MEMS devices for medical applications. The group is part of the MEMS Foundry of Philips Innovation Services. The Foundry has 2650 m2 of cleanroom and a large set of 150mm and 200mm state-of-the-art tools. The flexibility to work with materials ranging from Ag to Zn, including ‘CMOS-forbidden’ materials, alloys, dielectrics and polymers and the opportunity to work with substrates: Si, III/V, glass; square and round; up to 8".
You will be part of a highly motivated and skilled team of Technical Project Leaders, and (Senior) Process Development Engineers, who have decades of experience in supporting customers both inside and outside Philips, ranging from major companies and institutes, to highly innovative start-ups.
You will report directly to the Group Leader Process Development & Integration. The primary working location for this position is the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

We are looking for
A PhD or Master Degree in relevant engineering or related domain, such as Chemical Engineering or Materials Technology
A proven track record (>5 yrs.) as a Process Architect in the MEMS and Thin Film and/or Semiconductor domains
A high level of architectural competences (this includes technical skills, the ability to manage different stakeholders, and the ability to connect technology with business needs);
Experience with Manufacturing;
Experience with competence development in the MEMS and thin film technology area;
Knowledge and understanding of adjacent disciplines, or the capability to acquire this quickly.
