Your challenge

We’re about to receive the first feedback of our customers after we introduced our new point-of-care medical diagnostics system to the market in 2016. As Software Team Leader Handheld Diagnostics you are responsible for leading the software team, contributing to the development of point-of-care medical diagnostics systems. These systems consist of analyzer hardware, software, microfluidic disposables and integrated bio-chemical assay applications. We’re about to enter a new phase in our product development cycle.

Your focus will be on the people management and the technical leadership of the software team, and overall coordination of software development activities, including make vs. buy decisions and coordination of external suppliers to add to your team’s capacity. Your team defines and designs the software of the total system, for all critical building blocks and interfaces. You will work across different projects in a very multidisciplinary international environment.

Your responsibilities

Within this role you will:

  • Coach and guide the international agile software team; you will enable them to excel;

  • Be the project manager for the development of system-level software solutions, you’ll translate business demand into IT strategy and domain specific requirements in line with the Philips Digital strategy;

  • Work closely together with our architect & contribute to long-term development roadmaps based on the on software knowledge and a sound understanding of software technology and market trends;

  • You’ll challenge the team to continuously improve on the agile development cycles. You will keep up to speed on new developments in the field to ensure state of the art development techniques and tools are deployed;

  • Maintain contacts with stakeholders within and outside Philips, other R&D centers and universities.

Your team

Handheld Diagnostics is one of the biggest Business Units within the Business Group Emerging Businesses. Handheld Diagnostics has grown to around 200 FTE and our aim is to generate new business in a new market for Philips which will significantly contribute to the growth ambitions.

Handheld Diagnostics has developed a next generation Point of Care solution which aims to support the caregiver in making faster decisions in the Emergency Departments. This way we make a huge impact on people’s lives.

Our positive minded Software team has grown to around 20 smart people in the last years, with a mix of fixed and hired employees, plus resources in outsourced projects with suppliers. The majority of the team is located in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, with some members working at another site in Denmark, and other locations in Europe with suppliers.

As a Software Team Leader you will report directly to the Senior Director Research and Development. You’ll be working on the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, together with thousands of other smart people from 80+ countries, in a unique and buzzing environment that you won’t find that anywhere else in Europe.

We are looking for

  • After your MSc degree you’ve gained at least 5 years of experience in complex software development of a heavily regulated industry, preferably including early leadership experience, with experience in Handheld & Embedded platforms, and even better in the In-Vitro Diagnostics or Medical Device industry;

  • Proven industrial experience with Product Creation Processes (product development & launching to market) and working according to quality standards for medical device development (ISO 13485; IEC62304), structured working methods (LEAN, Agile etc.), including experience in validation of Software and design of efficient processes for validation.

  • Excellent communication and technical leadership skills in cross-boundary environments. Pro-active attitude with a can-do mentality and a talent for leading people;

  • Strong analytical problem solver, familiar with formal methods for root-cause analysis.
