Philips Senior Manufacturing Engineer in San Diego, California

Your role

The position works as a manufacturing engineer to transfer new products under development into production and improve existing product lines. The individual will perform process development, design fixtures, specify equipment, and prepare relevant documentation. The individual in this position shall be hands on, a self-starter, and works with little supervision.

IGT Devices is part of the Philips Image Guided Therapy (IGT) at https://intranet.philips.com/Pages/Image-Guided-Therapy.aspx business group. Our solutions combine navigational tools such as catheters and guide wires with advanced software to help confirm the optimal treatment at the point of care: measurement technology, procedure-specific application support and on-board imaging and monitoring with improved anatomical and functional information to optimize therapy delivery.​​ The IGT Devices organization consists of three segments: Coronary, Peripheral Vascular and Electrophysiology.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop, document and implement assembly processes, including equipment & tooling etc. Perform process characterization studies with DOEs, and validate equipment with Installation, Operational and Process Qualifications. Manage procurement of automation equipment. Coordinate with contract manufacturer on requirements and acceptance testing.

  • Introduce improvement to existing processes and equipment. Reduce: cost, yield loss and customer issues of products currently in production.

  • Write work instructions and design / model associated tools and fixtures.

  • Integrate product design into PLM system – BOMs, Manufacturing Operations, Device History Records

  • Participate in project teams in support of development activities. Ensures tasks are completed and meet established time frames.

  • Arrange production line layout and balance workflow

We are looking for

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or related science) and 5 years minimum related work experience.

  • Medical device manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Experience with formal problem solving techniques.

  • Good working knowledge of electrical, mechanical designs.

  • Experience using SolidWorks application

  • Knowledge of computer applications (i.e.: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project, Windows, Visio, etc.)

  • Knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and of generally accepted office practices, procedures and equipment.

  • Previous experience in the medical devices industry is a plus.

Additional preferred experience:

  • Fixture and custom tool design (using SolidWorks).

  • Knowledge of Catheter manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of process and equipment validation.

  • Knowledge of automated manufacturing equipment, semiconductor dicing saw, laser cutting tools, plasma preparation, UV cure equipment, fluid dispending and micro welding tools.
