Philips Negotiation Excellence Director in Amsterdam, Netherlands

  • Define and regularly review negotiation strategy, methodology and processes tailored to Philips commodity groups, supplier base, regions, etc.

• Consult Commodity Managers during high impact negotiations, ensuring the utilization of optimal negotiation designs based on game theory (including bargaining and auction theory).

• Develop innovative negotiation strategies (advanced negotiation strategies), methodologies and approaches with their appropriate support tools.

• Identify areas of improvements, capture and implement lessons learned.

• Create and maintain a negotiation pipeline (transparency, priorities, interdependencies, and sequence tactics).

• As part of the core team facilitating the setup of the “Negotiation Factory”.

• Train Philips procurement managers in deploying negotiation excellence practices.

• Support important negotiations hands-on and in person.

Your challenge

As our new Director, Negotiation Excellence within Group Procurement, you are part of the highly specialized Negotiation & Contracting Excellence team, with the responsibility to ensure the further development and utilization of advanced negotiation (standard, coached and Game Theory) and sourcing excellence techniques. You will be located at one of the Philips offices in Amsterdam or Best.

Your responsibilities

As our new Director, Negotiation Excellence, you play a key role in defining and implementing the Negotiation & Sourcing Excellence concepts across the entire scope of Philips Procurement.

This includes:

  • Consult Commodity Managers and Procurement Engineers during the Procurement Strategy Development process to drive maximum impact by applying the most innovative sourcing & negotiation levers

  • Screen and regularly review (advanced) negotiation and sourcing projects with Commodity Managers and Procurement Engineers based on white spot analysis and Procurement Strategy implementation

  • Coach Commodity Managers during high impact negotiations, ensuring best-in-class negotiation preparation and the utilization of optimal negotiation strategies.

  • Lead cross-functional Negotiation & Sourcing excellence projects (e.g. game theory-based negotiation projects) with highest business impact and/or strategic relevance as Senior Expert on behalf of Commodity Management

  • Manage Procurement Excellence programs including leading training concepts to accelerate the overall Procurement transformation

  • Conduct Negotiation training and consultancy events to drive negotiation and sourcing excellence development across Philips

  • Supporting selected important negotiations hands-on and in-person.

You will work alongside Commodity Management and Procurement Engineering to initiate, set-up and implement optimal negotiation rules and designs, tailored to the commodity specifics and sourcing environment. In this role the Director Negotiations Excellence will report to Philips Head of Negotiation & Contracting Excellence.

We are looking for

The ideal candidate for this position has extensive negotiation experience with suppliers/customers and a broad experience in strategic consultancy roles in multinational companies. The candidate should support the following functional requirements:

  • A university degree in Economics or Business Administration with at least 6 years relevant experience (required)

  • Negotiation and sourcing expert in establishing and driving world class procurement strategies and methodologies (required)

  • Consulting experience in managing complex programs (ideally in Procurement and/or Supply Chain)

  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills in a global virtual and cross-functional network (required)

  • Strong Strategic-Innovative Orientation in creating high impact strategies and programs beyond existing thinking and concepts (required)

  • Managerial skills to lead cross-functional project teams (required)

  • Experience in multinational company/environment (required)

  • Thought leader on Game Theory (Bargaining and auction theories) negotiation methods.

  • Strong English language skills and Microsoft Office capabilities

  • Willing to travel (30%)
