Philips Design Verification Engineer - Sensors in Andover, Massachusetts


In this role, you have the opportunity to

Become a Design Verification Engineer. Responsible for the design, development, documentation and execution of all design verification & validation (V&V) plans, schedules, test protocols and reports to ensure Medical Consumables and Sensors at Philips Healthcare meets published specifications and are compliant with Quality System Regulations. This engineer will work on medical products such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, capnography, transcutaneous bilirubin, etc.

You are responsible for

  • Developing and executing V&V test plans and compiling results in accordance with Philips processes

  • Developing risk-based and statistically significant sampling plans for technical requirements

  • Participating in a cross functional team supporting design reviews, hazard analysis and risk assessments to ensure high standards are met

  • Participating in root cause analysis for defects and provides process improvement suggestions to eliminate future occurrences of similar defects

  • Using Defect Tracking System to report and/or resolve product issues

  • Maintaining projects and documentation according to ISO and GMP guidelines, while following the Philips design controls and associated processes

  • Maintaining current knowledge to ensure compliance to applicable regulatory and corporate domestic and international standards/requirements (e.g., FDA QSR, ISO 13485, MDD) as they apply to V&V activities of the Design Control process

  • Supporting development of methods to continuously improve verification and validation processes

  • Coordinating work with third party test houses as required

  • Performing duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations

  • Travel requirement: 10%

You are a part of

The Medical Consumables and Sensors (MCS) Business Category identifies and meets customer and market needs by designing, developing, and distributing consumable and sensor products that enable clinical measurement for Philips Healthcare and non-Philips patient monitoring solutions. MCS also designs, markets and distributes to customers around the world a portfolio of products that provide developmental care solutions in perinatal markets in addition to providing jaundice care along with industry consumables and sensors.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar engineering field

  • 3+ years engineering/R&D experience in rigorous quality-focused environment

  • 2+ years of verification experience

  • Working knowledge of IEC-60601 and other common ISO standards used in testing of Medical Devices

  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills

  • Self-motivated person that can work individually and be part of a cross functional team

  • US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.

Desired skills and experience

  • Use of statistical tools like Minitab, Weibull++ etc.

  • Applying statistical knowledge to practical problems

  • Developing risk based and statistical significant sampling plans

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • A self-starter with a strong desire to learn new concepts and adapt quickly
