About Philips Experience Design

Philips Experience Design is the in-house design house of Philips working across multiple domains in health. Located in Philips Innovation Campus (PIC) in Bangalore, Philips Experience Design plays a key role in the entire proposition creation process from facilitating co-creation approach to defining user experience to implementation in products and services.

Your role and responsibilities

Role:

This role combines people management with program and competence leadership. Associate Design Director (ADD) is responsible for a team of designers (Usability and UX) as a people manager addressing all aspects like engagement, inspiration and professional growth of the team. At the same time, ADD is a contributor at the project/program level as a competence lead and also a senior resource specializing in Usability Design providing competence leadership to the fellow Usability Designers on location (including those working in other teams).

The role has a potential to grow along any of the above mentioned aspects and take on more responsibilities at cross-team or India location level.

Responsibilities:

  • Build & sustain the Philips Experience Design culture at the team level

  • Orchestrate team-level processes and improvements

  • Lead local usability designers (and UX designers) to help build world class competencies

  • Alongside this, be responsible for a product project/program (content/competence role)

Usability design competence would include:

UX requirements analysis

  • Performs domain analysis/user research to elicit user needs and usability requirements.

  • Describes the various user profiles, performs task analysis and derive from these usability needs and requirements.

  • Delivers the usability requirements specification for a product.

UX design

  • Lead and inspire both UX and Usability Designers with a vision of user experience for a program or a set of projects for a business.

  • Foster collaborative working between UX and Usability designers throughout product creation process to ensure the best user experience

  • On the basis of the usability requirements develops conceptual models, user interface specifications, UX flows, navigational maps, etc.

  • Ensures that the user interface of the product conforms to the PH user interface guidelines.

  • If required, creates mock-ups and interactive prototypes to be evaluated with the end-users.

  • Co-ordinates the work of any graphic designers with application engineers, software engineers and other staff to ensure an optimal usability design of the product.

Usability testing and evaluation

  • Ensures that usability engineering is applied according to international standards (such as IEC 62366)

  • Defines usability evaluation plans and conduct/coordinate usability testing activities like for example user testing, expert reviews, focus groups:

  • creates usability test plans in co-operation with stakeholders, according to best practices and standards on usability engineering

  • executes the evaluation using established practices and state-of-art methodology

  • delivers excellent reports on the usability of the evaluated product and provides guidance to the design team on how to address the problems identified.

Your profile

Education: Academic background in UX design or humanities or Cognitive science with focus on Human-Computer Interaction and Human factors (cognitive ergonomics).

You must have proven knowledge of:

  • Human factors and interaction design principles

  • Usability methodologies, processes and standards, especially for software products

  • Interaction design

  • Prototyping tools for creating mock-ups

  • The healthcare domain (or equivalent professional equipment domain)

Experience:

10 - 15 years progressive experience as interaction designer & usability engineer of which at least 10 years as Usability lead.

In addition, having worked in international corporate organizations and experience in medical equipment/ healthcare would be a big plus.

This position might, in its present definition, have people reporting into it directly or indirectly. If not, it could certainly grow into an additional task of people management. The candidate must have some experience in this area of responsibility.

Experience is also required in:

  • writing usability requirements, creating UX designs

  • planning and performing usability tests and expert reviews.

  • working according structured, state-of-the-art user-centered design methodologies

  • team working, planning and co-ordination with people from different disciplines.

Language: Fluent (speaking and writing) in English is required.
