Philips Senior Manager Sustainability in Beijing, China

In this role, you will be part of a world-class sustainability team where you can put your environmental knowledge and regulatory skills to use. You will help the team to stay connected in a fast-paced international environment. Can you bring together the right balance of sustainability knowledge, people skills and knowledge of environmental legislation?

You will be pivotal in improving the Philips environmental performance and reducing operational risk by driving the Philips Healthy People, Sustainable Planet Program with our manufacturing sites and markets in Asia & Pacific region and supporting environmental regulatory compliance in this region. You will serve as the Asia & Pacific liaison to Group Sustainability on key sustainability initiatives.

You are responsible for

  • Monitoring and driving Healthy People, Sustainable Planet performance for the Asia & Pacific manufacturing sites

  • Providing (technical) environmental support to manufacturing-, business- and commercial activities in the Asia & Pacific, including Merger and Acquisition projects; ensuring Philips environmental regulatory compliance in the region, incl. conducting audits

  • Leading and coaching the sites in the region on deployment of the Sustainability programs of Carbon neutrality, Ecodesign, Circular economy and Access to Care

  • Assisting the Group Sustainability management team with manufacturing- and business/market performance reviews and conducting regular meetings to update regulations, review performance and share best practices/lesson learned

  • Supporting the environmental license and permit application of greenfield projects in China

  • Prepare and participate in quarterly Sustainability management review meetings

  • Ensure availability of sustainability action plans and targets for manufacturing sites in the region and monitor performance

  • Coordinate and execute the Asia & Pacific environmental compliance audit program in conjunction with external environmental legal and/or professional consultants

  • Manage closure of corrective compliance actions and report regional compliance status to senior management

  • Manage regulatory reports, registrations and permits required for the parent corporation

  • Work with trade associations and internal experts to track product related regulatory requirements and legislative developments and advise on business impact

  • Lead, participate in- or facilitate multidisciplinary work groups on issues such as energy conservation, waste management, chemicals restrictions, TSCA, packaging, batteries and ISO14001 certification, aiming at development of harmonized Philips processes, procedures and tools

  • Chair and coordinate regular regional Sustainability network meetings

  • Share best practices, information, advice and environmental requirements in the region and ensure deployment, support and training when needed

  • Serve as a lead representative for the Sustainability function on company Merger & Acquisition projects: Support Due Diligence auditing and -reporting

  • Support commercial business activities and key account management from a Sustainability perspective

Philips is a leader in sustainability, which is, amongst others, recognized by the second highest position in the Health Care Equipment & Supplies category of the 2018 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). Sustainability is an integral part of our company strategy. The Global Sustainability team for Philips consists of 30 professionals located in the Netherlands, China, and United States.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Sustainability and Environmental subject matter expertise

  • 5+ years of experience in environmental management in an international business environment

  • Extensive environmental audit experience, certification as ISO14001 lead auditor is an advantage

  • Understanding environmental regulatory processes, procedures and requirements in the Asia & Pacific region (e.g. TSCA, packaging, batteries and recycling requirements)

  • Ability to convert legal language into clear and sharp business requirements that are understood by internal stakeholders

  • Excellent people management and communication skills through organizational layers, culturally sensitive

  • Excellent command of structured multi-stakeholder project management methodology and tools

  • Team player, goal oriented and pragmatic (gets things done)

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, well organized.
