Pathology is the gold standard in cancer diagnosis today, and Philips Digital Pathology Solutions offers an automated digital pathology image creation, management and analysis system, which enables the automated detection of tumours across a range of different tissue types. Many of these tissue types have areas of similar morphologies. Philips has built Xplore, its slide and data management platform, to speed up research and biomarker discovery.

Philips Belfast want to rebuild Xplore as a cloud product, in order to take advantage of the technologies available from cloud service platforms, including scalability, flexibility, cost-effective storage of data and rapid development of new features.

You are responsible for

  • Designing and implementing a strategy for the cloud enablement of the Whole Slide Studies component. You will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of software engineers, web developers, product managers and pathologists.

  • Presenting your strategy to our software development and product management teams and then supporting in utilizing this strategy as the approach for transitioning all our tools and services to cloud-first solutions.

  • In order to develop this strategy, you will conduct a detailed assessment and documentation of the current feature implementation and its technology environment.

  • Delivery of a working proof of concept that will work in a public, private, or hybrid cloud platform, based on analysis of business and application requirements.

  • Identify common integration points with other products in the DCP Portfolio.

You are a part of

A multi-disciplinary team consisting of software engineers, knowledge engineers, data scientists, researchers, web developers, and pathologists. The solution will be presented to in house pathologists and the Computational Imaging Team and will be a game changer for the future of computational pathology.

As part of the Innovation & Strategy cluster in Philips, the business group Emerging Businesses pursues four health related business opportunities to address some of these unsolved problems in medicine through technology. We recruitment in 2 businesses: Digital Pathology and Neuro Diagnostics. You will be considered an “early joiner” to the Philips Emerging Businesses family which plans to expand itself, by approximately 700 members in the next 3 years.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience;

  • A strong software development background, specializing in deep learning

  • A Bachelor’s or Masters degree from Imperial College in the following: Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Visual Computing & Robotics; Electronic Engineering; Computer Science; Applied Mathematics; Biomedical Engineering; or Applied Physics

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Strong communication skills, fluent in English both written and verbal

  • Please note, a degree in the list above is essential due to modules studied within these at Imperial College.
