As a Principal Engineer in the new business venture ‘FORS’, you hold a pivotal role and have the opportunity to disrupt Medtech and make a real difference for patients.
The proposition is new to the world and a crucial step in our Image Guided Therapy (IGT) purpose of treating patients better by innovating minimally invasive procedures. It will give you the chance to join our great journey in disrupting the current status quo within IGT.
You will manage the concept and product development for a portfolio of angiographic guidewires and catheters with excellent mechanical properties equipped with special optical fibers. This customer-centric, fast-learning and agile team - values drive, creativity and fast decision making in an integral business context. Dealing with uncertainty comes natural to you.
You are a part of
Image Guided Therapy, is one of the four Philips business clusters, its focused on diagnostics and therapy in the cardio-vascular domain, spanning the imaging guidance systems business and the therapy delivery business. Strengthened through recently acquired companies like Volcano, Spectranetics and EPD Solutions.
The overall strategy of IGT is to create an integrated clinical solution business that supports customers throughout the entire minimally invasive procedure and beyond.
Within these ventures, an entrepreneurial, multidisciplinary team acts as a start-up in the large corporation. Its main goal is to build new businesses and acquire new skills whilst leveraging the competencies of the broader Philips organization.
The FORS venture is based in Best (Netherlands) and operates globally. You will report to the R&D Venture Manager and will be functionally guided by the Principal Architects and Clinical Scientists. Want to learn more about FORS: https://www.philips.com/a-w/research/research-programs/fors.html
You are responsible for
Managing the scope of cost and time from the entire FORS guidewire program, together with key suppliers and in close collaboration with key customers (clinical and technical team)
Creating a minimal invasive guidewire platform with the appropriate (manufacturing) technologies, with well-defined building blocks
Creating technical concepts, choosing the optimal design, leveraging technology and contributing to/driving roadmaps; establishing control points (IP)
Innovating and building new competencies and/or extend existing ones with the objective to contribute significant value to the business
Design requirements, realization and test (strategies) of guidewires, in the context of the complete FORS system, including required documentation
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
MSc in Engineering (e.g. mechanical, material science, Bio-engineering) or similar
(Angiographic) therapy delivery guidewires and catheters experience is a must
Vast knowledge in medical innovation and product development projects, from translating customer needs into an initial concept up to regulatory clearance of the final product. This includes extensive experience in the design, development, risk management of (minimal) invasive, sterile devices, as well as the relevant medical device standards
Knowledge of the manufacturing technologies used in the device industry
Excellent communication and team-building skills
