Philips Director Product Industrialization Operations in Bothell, Washington


We welcome you to join Philips as the Director of Product Industrialization Engineering with Sonicare/Oral Healthcare (Consumer) business in Bothell, WA

In this role, you have the opportunity to

Drive the industrial activities for the Business Group Oral Health Care, encompassing in-house manufacturing and outsourced manufacturing in different engagement models (CM, OEM, ODM).

Within his/her department he/she holds 2 distinct functions:

  • Product Industrialization Engineering (PIE) and the Maintaining launched Design function.

  • You will contribute to the translation of product roadmaps into Manufacturing and Technology roadmaps.

Product Industrialization Engineering function will:

lead and manage all industrialization activities for the assigned business scope.

  • The function understands the product context End to End and is accountable for the flow-down of requirements from Customer CTQ’s to ultimately control plans to ensure flawless ramp up and controlled and compliant manufacturing over a product’s life cycle.

  • Your function is responsible for identifying E2E improvement opportunities at its facilities and operates in a continuous improvement model.

  • These project management professionals are accountable for the design, and creation of the manufacturing assets.

  • The function ensures execution of defined strategies in close co-operation with Commodity Management, Product development and all other relevant functions and business partners in an End to End mindset.

Maintain Launched Design Program Management (MLD PM) function will:

  • Holds the pivoting function in end to end management of products throughout the product lifecycle once mass production for a product commences.

  • Owner of all product changes and make sure change management is governed through the Change Control Board (CCB).

  • You are accountable for the execution of MLD projects.

  • The MLD PM’s maintain the Technical Product Data and manage the Phase in / Phase Out of new propositions.

Via the In House Manufacturing facilities, the head of PIE is constantly in touch with the state of the art of In-House Manufacturing and leverages that knowledge towards the outsourced activities. Likewise, the head of PIE provides insights in the state of the art of outsourced manufacturing. In case Key Components are outsourced from an In House Manufacturing facility, the head of PIE ensures the management of those components through his AME function.

Your Responsibilities

  • Defines objectives, policies, processes and budgets on short and long term, ensuring his/her PIE organization can meet the objectives in Product Industrialization activities and Maintain Launched Design activities, and ensures that projects are staffed and deliverables are produced on time with high quality

  • Manages products throughout the entire product lifecycle in MLD arena, ensuring continuous improvement on Quality and Cost and implements mandatory regulatory changes. Manages version control. Manages the introduction of new country versions

  • Formulates and implements vision/direction/strategy and steers his/her team to add maximum value to the business, impacting the business immediately and in the future

  • Manages capabilities of the team to develop and maintain a long term view on the required competences and knowledge related to NPI and LCM.

  • Ensures an engaged, innovative, and inspiring working environment by motivating, challenging and coaching the team members towards growth, manages and optimizes the working climate, stimulates entrepreneurship and drives engagement

  • Is co-responsible for achieving BG AOPs, guides PI engineers and ensures optimal allocation of engineers to projects, activities and suppliers

  • Cooperates with commodity management, product development, procurement engineering and other relevant parties, programs and category management.

  • Manages top-level executive relationships with key customers

  • Prepares the integral cost breakdown (current state) for the purchased products at the supplier (NPI) and maintains Technical Product Data (MLD)

  • Supports DfX conventions with in depth understanding of the manufacturing cost structure and/or audits the supplier to obtain this insight.

  • Supports suppliers with ideas for sustainability improvements

  • Drives lean processes and change management in the internal and external organization

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • BS or MS in Industrial, Manufacturing, Engineering,

  • Requires 7+ years’ experience in functional area or related area

  • Consumer, or Medical device industry with mass production manufacturing

  • Familiar with product and process Validation: IQ, OQ, PPQ, PQ etc.

  • Knowledge and experience with Medical Safety regulations from the FDA, IEC, AAMI, IEEE, and ISO

  • Work experience in an industrial environment preferred

  • Working knowledge of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) & Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) required

  • Working knowledge of Supply Chain/Manufacturing principles and implementation of Design for Excellence (DFx) inputs to designs preferred.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills preferred

  • Strong driving & managing global teams, programs and organizations
