Philips Product Designer (Industrial Designer) Oral Health Care in Bothell, Washington


In this role, you have the opportunity to

An experienced Product/Industrial Designer to join our Design team in Bothell. The ideal candidate will join a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team representing a full range of design capabilities, co-located with marketing, research, and development.

You are responsible for

  • Consulting effectively with upstream marketing to understand the design brief for your assigned project.

  • Working with a cross-functional team to uncover actionable consumer insights, needs, and compelling solutions.

  • Using analytical, visual, and conceptual skills to create meaningful and innovative solutions.

  • Supporting design research and design tests.

  • Developing product design direction and concepts, individually or with design team members.

  • Leading design critiques to inform design decisions and focus on the next design phase.

  • Evaluating and recommending the optimal solution that best addresses brand, commercial, and user requirements.

  • Managing design suppliers to deliver portions of outsourced design or model-making work.

  • Applying general usability principles to define the user interface and user experience.

  • Creating design specifications, experience requirements to inform engineering and manufacturing.

  • Generating design intellectual property and making the necessary submissions.

  • Evaluating samples and experiences to ensure that the solution remains true to design intent, according to the design specification.

  • Conducting design project evaluation and contributing to continuous improvement to our design process.

  • Acting as an advocate for design, building strong relationships with project teams, and key decision-makers to achieve the best solutions.

  • Contributing to the product design strategy and design identity for the assigned project and product portfolio.

You are a part of

Philips Design, established in 1925, and one of the longest-established design organizations in the world. It has studios across the globe – in Amsterdam, Bangalore, Cambridge (US), Eindhoven, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Shanghai and Singapore – and a creative force of 450 professionals. We create the future identity for the portfolio and execute this through projects, guidelines and final design specifications.

You will report to the Bothell studio Senior Director.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Bachelor or foreign degree equivalent in Product or Industrial Design.

  • Minimum 5 years relevant design experience in one or more business domains with proven record of accomplishment with commercially launched products, and recognition from international design associations in the form of design awards.

  • Able to define the appropriate design language, form, and experience.

  • Able to direct the appropriate use of color, material, finishing, and product graphics. Candidate must have impeccable taste.

  • Able to guide a cross-function team through a typical end to end product design process.

  • A track record of creating designs that are easy to use.
