In this role, you have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of an outstanding healthcare experience for a broad range of healthcare related to product, services and systems. With your team, you will have a direct impact with your daily work and conduct evaluations throughout the design process in order to identify areas where usability, safety, and the overall user experience can be improved.

You are responsible for

  • Your team will work with global teams on the creation of an excellent user- and patient experience for our healthcare products in the emergency care space. This will involve working on all stages of the User Centered Design process; from contribution to the initial research on user needs and workflow analyses, to supporting usability evaluations for soon to be released products.

  • Create and execute usability evaluation plans to be performed across design and development of our products. Such activities are defined in cooperation you’re your peers and internal stakeholders in the Business Units and executed according to current standards on usability engineering to ensure compliance with European and American regulation (i.e. FDA).

  • Conduct usability evaluations (formative and summative), expert reviews, heuristics evaluations using established usability practices and methods. Report results with your team, draw conclusions and make recommendations for re-design and usability requirements.

  • You help to analyze required information to form a relevant understanding of context (domain, business, market, emerging contexts, related trends, target groups, etc.) and define and articulate relevant insights.

  • You create relevant scenarios/ themes/ concepts that explore potential or articulate a proposition, based on contextual understanding.

  • You help direct complex business strategy programs and projects through use of deep business knowledge & design thinking.

  • You use appropriate and effective visual design skills to articulate simplicity across interaction & interface, supporting business needs and increasing user satisfaction.

  • You develop and use appropriate visualization skills (sketching, prototyping and specification) to define and communicate interaction concepts of digital service solutions.

  • You create effective and appropriate visual languages by understanding the meaning and effect of these on the brand, audience, market and culture.

  • You use communication & influencing skills to build relationships with teams and key decision makers and achieve the best solutions

You are a part of

The Therapeutic Care team is part of the global Experience Design team in Philips and is based in the Bothell, Washington studio. We aim to improve usability and to deliver excellent user experience. We practice deep user empathy and champion the user throughout the design and development process. We work very closely with the other design teams such as product design, software design, UX design and also with our internal research organization. We are an ambitious team that drives thought leadership on usability throughout the organization.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in human factors engineering, interaction design, or other relevant academic background.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of user research, usability engineering, or interaction design principles of complex systems (e.g. Performing and reporting usability tests, creating usability requirements and UI wireframes, etc.).

  • Affinity with usability methodologies, processes and standards, and prototyping tools for evaluation and creating mock-ups;

  • Understanding design of experiments, statistical analysis;

  • Affinity with the end to end process of creation of products from requirements analysis to validation;

  • Good communication and collaboration skills to perform with multidisciplinary and international teams;

  • Ability to write high quality formal documentation recording usability activities.

  • Excellent English (written and verbal). More languages – an advantage.
