In this role, you have the opportunity to:
Work on the “front end” of Research & Development efforts to evaluate new technologies, establish user needs, and influence strategy. Work with physician, regulatory, clinical, marketing, and strategy partners to design and develop new, innovative medical products that meet strategic goals.
You are responsible for:
An advanced technical understanding of mechanical systems, design, and material science applicable to medical devices
Solving problems by rapidly designing and then completing series of experiments and research to understand potential solutions and failures
Developing and executing engineering studies, analyzing data and providing recommendations
Assessing technologies as potential solutions to clinical needs
Learning and leading within the Philips Advanced Development process
Collaborating with other engineers, clinical, marketing, quality, regulatory and customer physicians to achieve solutions together
Recognizing potential solutions by combining clinical awareness, technical knowledge and engineering aptitude
Driving ideation and brainstorming with colleagues and physicians
Partnering with marketing in gathering Voice of Customer
Continuously growing technical and clinical expertise in specific areas to enhance identifying problems and solutions
Generating patentable invention disclosures routinely
Providing solid engineering horsepower and capability to complement the research and ideation resources already present
Leading advanced development project teams
Building relationships with key physicians and research universities
Developing and managing animal and cadaver studies as needed
Excellent written and verbal communication
Excellent documentation skills
CAD proficiency in creating solid models– SolidWorks preferred
May directly supervise/mentor one or more technicians or engineers
You are a part of
A multi-functional team working to develop all aspects of new products in a highly collaborative environment. You will collaborate with Engineers, Clinicians, Sales Leaders, and other industry professionals about all facets of state of the art medical device development and improvement. You will collaborate with clinical leaders to understand the needs behind the products you develop
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or equivalent experience required
Advanced degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering with medical device emphasis preferred
Minimum of 6 years combined experience in research, advanced development or product development
Career experience in a catheter lab or operating room setting a plus
Medical device experience including writing protocols and reports to support verification and validation activities for product commercialization
Technical skills to include translation of first-principal’s science/engineering understanding to Design of Experiments, interpreting/presenting data, conducting advanced statistical analysis, and writing technical reports
Capable of communicating complicated technical information to audiences with varying levels of expertise in the area
Experience working with material vendors, contract research laboratories, and academic labs
Solidworks, MS Office, JMP/MiniTab, General testing and prototyping equipment
Knowledge of medical device regulations and standards; Written communication skills, examples of presentations, submitted journal articles, and abstracts may be requested.
