Philips Intellectual Property Coordinator in Drachten, Netherlands


In this role, you have the opportunity to

support product development teams on IP related issues and to assure protection of the intellectual property and infringement of our patent portfolio by other parties. You actively take part in the product development projects and you lead IP tasks throughout the whole development cycle.

You are responsible for

  • Assessment of IP landscape by conducting patent searches in databases and interpreting the results with respect to running projects

  • Provide solutions concerning IP related issues: e.g. dealing with blocking IP

  • Assessment of design freedom practice

  • Document the IP related characteristics of the developed functions and obtained knowledge

  • Cooperation with corresponding IP Attorneys and Legal Departments

  • Development and proposal IP strategy to create and maintain competitive IP position

  • Active maintenance of the knowledge of competitor products and their patent portfolio

You are a part of

our pre-development team that is at the frontline of innovations in Homecare, one of Philips’ most successful teams, with a growth that manages to over-deliver time after time. Our dynamic team consist of over 60 engineers and is responsible for complete cycle of product development such as product and consumer research, pre-development, mechanical and electrical engineering, project management and realization.

You are going to act as a local interface between the central Philips Intellectual Property & Standards department (IP&S) and our Drachten team.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Technical Master’s degree (preferably Mechanical engineering or Physics)

  • Experience in dealing with patents for an R&D company or a strong and proven affinity for dealing with patents

  • An entrepreneurial spirit with a good eye for details and interest in legal issues

  • Excellent communication skills in English – verbal and written

  • A great deal of self-discipline and perseverance to deliver either solo or in teams

  • Influencing skills
