In this role, you have the opportunity to
Explore new opportunities in molecular diagnostics specifically for cancer. You will develop and improve the expertise of Philips in clinical genomics, with a focus on cancer and transcriptomic data, as well as in medical oncology. You will specifically develop novel propositions based on state of the art Genomics (NGS-based) and signal transduction pathway analysis (developed by Philips, see Cancer Res. 74 (2014) 2936) for clinical applications, also beyond cancer, e.g. immune diagnostics. In general, you will be involved in identifying novel research activities in relation to precision diagnostics in oncology, based on your specific expertise. Results will transferred to the Philips businesses with the goal to become solutions for health care professionals to improve patients’ lifes.
You are responsible for
Identifying and shaping the opportunities in specifically the genomics field and in general in medical oncology;
Translating clinical, genomics and (molecular) biology knowledge to operational use within the team;
A methodological way of working, where milestones are defined in a clear project framework;
Contributing to the strategic orientation of the research department in molecular diagnostics and (clinical) genomics specifically and in the area of precision diagnostics in oncology in general.
You are a part of
In the Precision Diagnostics (PDx) department of Philips Research we aim to generate actionable information for healthcare professionals out of biological measurements using biological models in a clinical context. We are specialized in interpreting complex data from different areas such as genomics, molecular biology and pathology. We develop novel mathematical models to interpret such data based on clinical and biological insights. One such development is using knowledge-based computational models to interpret genomic and transcriptomic measurements. The outcome provides information into a clinical context and thereby delivers a solution to a particular clinical need.
We work in close collaboration with several Philips business, (e.g. Digital & Computational Pathology Solutions, Oncology Informatics and Molecular Pathway Diagnostics and are involved in co creation activities with multiple national and international clinical collaborations or via subsidy consortia.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
Clinical geneticist specialized in oncogenetics;
OR Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology or genetics with a strong background in sequencing technologies and sequencing data interpretation. This with proven experience within a clinical setting (humane patient studies);
OR a Ph.D. in medical oncology, or an M.D. in interal medicine with proven experience in a clinical setting.
Excellent technical and reporting skills;
Act as a thought leader with a team-player mentality;
Taking ownership and having an entrepreneurial attitude.
In addition having one or more of the following would be a further advantage:
Preferably experience in translational research towards clinical oncology applications;
Practical hands-on biomolecular analysis experience related to the fields of molecular biology, cell biology, signal transduction, mutational analysis and/or disease pathophysiology;
Proven track record in cancer research or immunology;
Ability to combine molecular biology and/or clinical genetics in developing new approaches and connect multiple disciplines.
In return, we offer you
An unique opportunities to develop cutting edge clinical solutions. Working in a highly motivated and dynamic multi-disciplinary scientific team.
Why should you join Philips?
Working at Philips is entering a multidisciplinary high quality research environment, where people with complementary expertise work together in a motivated manner to develop solutions for clinical needs and make them available for the patients that need them.
