Purpose of the Role:
Develop and drive the Health Tech Licensing programs including: opportunity identification, evaluation, valuation and financial modelling; short and medium term strategies and plans; manage intellectual property commercial/licensing prospects and opportunity pipeline by working directly with the Philips IPCs and businesses, research organizations and third parties to develop appropriate intellectual property licensing opportunities and related strategies and workflow. Strategize and develop comprehensive licensing approached/program(s) related thereto.
Lead and drive the evaluation, creation, development and execution of licensing programs of intellectual property/technology attributed to the Philips Health Continuum in collaboration with the applicable HC IPCs and business(s), I&S and/or IP&S MT.
Lead and develop team of Licensing Professionals
Lead the team of HealthTech Licensing
Develop a worldwide group of third parties who will form a part of the evaluation and execution processes.
Lead intellectual property licensing programs, including: the negotiation and execution of licenses and commercialization agreements, and responsibility for program financials and budgets
Develop the team that is assigned to you via trainings (including IP&S Academy), coaching, professional, and personal development.
Address performance issues as appropriate in the management team.
Develop and deliver internal training materials to internal clients with respect to issues of importance to IP&S and/or the group being managed and facilitate compliance with Philips policies and procedures.
Maintain a thorough up-to-date knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing strategies in and outside of the healthcare space and an understanding of the relevant Philips businesses and healthcare technologies and industries and related R&D activities
Work with General Licensing Unit to develop templates and models which reflect standard methodologies and likely scenarios to help expedite commercialization opportunities in both HT IP and General Licensing Units.
Provide clear ethical mentorship in all aspects of work.
Lead and facilitate other related initiatives when applicable, in particular initiatives that are relevant for Philips and across the IP&S organization.
Member of IP&S extended management team
The team consists of 2 IP Professionals and 1 IP Analyst.
Qualified IP attorney or similar degree
Technical background (masters or PHD level) with understanding in a broad range of technical subject matters and interest in all types of technology.
Practical experience in intellectual property program development activities including identifying appropriate commercialization opportunities, valuing such opportunities and having the ability to work closely with senior business and technical personnel to funnel such chances to create significant intellectual property licensing programs;
A strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to develop business cases for licensing opportunities using strategic skills, financial acumen as well as IP knowledge
Practical experience leading/participating in significant license programs and opportunities including experience in financial aspects of leading such programs, licensing negotiations and litigation;
Team up within IP&S and in the applicable business and ability to embrace the big picture of the organization and how IP&S can build successfully to contribute to that big picture;
Prior experience in the healthcare industry working with a variety of healthcare technologies is desirable but not necessary as we seek to develop standard methodologies regardless of where they are developed; and
A demonstrated interest in technology, the rapidly changing nature of how health care is defined and delivered and in business development and the less staid nature that business development entails.
Ability to travel 25% or more as may be required
