Philips Innovation Lead HealthWorks in Eindhoven, Netherlands


In this role, you have the opportunity to

be an integral part of the HealthWorks global organisation, based in Eindhoven/Amsterdam, and working closely with internal innovation teams, as well as startups and the broader ecosystem for the purpose of identifying, accelerating and de-risk breakthrough innovation opportunities for Philips.

You are responsible for

As HealthWorks Innovation Lead your main areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Create full awareness, understanding and endorsement of HealthWorks amongst internal stakeholders, ensuring a continuous flow of relevant breakthrough innovation initiatives into the HealthWorks funnel. Connect dots between customer trends, business priorities, technology breakthroughs and innovative business models to define engagement opportunities and execute.

  • Coach internal innovation teams on ways of working (lean start-up), strategy alignment, customer focus, problem-solution fit and business model innovation to ensure an agility, fast-iterations and co-creation approach that provides scalable and commercially successful propositions. Ensure HealthWorks methodologies and KPIs are rigorously applied to drive behavior and decisions.

  • Align project goals with Business stakeholders on an ongoing basis, defining the rules of engagement and operational framework to best manage technology and business risks. Organise project-reviews wit key stakeholders to ensure projects are on track (e.g. content, time, budget, tools, expert resources, business commitment) in order to make effective stop/pivot/continue decisions; reporting status regularly to the Head of HealthWorks and sharing learnings with other members of the Core Team.

  • Partner up with Business and other internal teams (CTO, Design, Strategy, HEMA, IP&S, etc) teams and ensure the necessary capabilities, tools and resources are available throughout the project. Equally, identify opportunities to leverage external expertise as and when required to de-risk.

  • Coach and mentor startup teams to identify and validate collaboration opportunities, facilitating access to internal expertise (available locally or elsewhere) and ecosystem resources following a well-defined program framework provided by the Global Program Management team.

  • Work with the HealthWorks Program Office to apply and improve common ways of working (building on existing methodologies), rigor in implementation, best practice sharing and continuous learning, work on the right platforms, proper re-use is made of existing knowledge and modules, and architectural choices are made in such a way that a maximum of synergy is realized.

  • Team up with other Innovation Leads from other HealthWorks Hubs to improve best practices and identify ecosystem synergies between different geographies for the purpose of creating value with ventures.

  • Drive an entrepreneurial performance culture throughout the organisation, making it extensive towards the Businesses and Expert teams. Support the deployment and adoption of HealthWorks across Philips as the (new) way of working for creating successful breakthrough innovations.

The HealthWorks’ Core Team is composed of highly experienced individuals acting as a fully integrated team. Each team member brings a strong track record in accelerating early stage innovation, both in a corporate as well as startup environment, linking businesses and strategy/commercial requirements with digital technologies and business model opportunities to enable breakthrough innovation. As a team we aim to excel at forming strong x-functional partnerships to ensure business relevance as well as facilitating availability of experts from inside and outside of Philips.

HealthWorks, which provides dedicated capabilities across 4 hubs: Cambridge (US), Bangalore, Eindhoven, and Shanghai. These comprise incubation space and easy access to infrastructure as well as in-house domain expertise, whether from the CTO organisation, Design, IP&S, Q&R or from the relevant Business Units.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Understanding of how large companies work, particularly around open innovation, and strong ability to navigate through organizations and partner up in an effective way to achieve results.

  • Extensive and demonstrable experience in both startups and corporations in driving new (digital) innovation.

  • Experience in building eco-system partnership and relationships to assist in the delivery of the core aspects of the HealthWorks programs.

  • Demonstrated thought leadership in the area of new business (digital) creation and the evolving digital economy, including new Business Models.

  • Deep understanding of Healthcare environment (Health Technology and Digital Health) and inherent challenges coupled with domain knowledge in all/some of Philips strategic focus areas.

  • Extensive hands-on experience in creating (or helping create) new businesses, from proposition definition to market introduction of first-of-a-kind value propositions.

  • Mentoring experience and knowledge start-up coaching methods (Lean start-up, Minimal Viable Product, Agile scrum, etc.) as well as strong understanding of how to scale-up ventures.

  • Deep understanding of the different proposition/business creation elements, e.g. business model innovation, importance of open and closed data, cloud systems, user experience, smart algorithms, HW/SW combinations, IT infrastructure, social media, security, privacy, big-data/analytics.

  • Strong conceptual/strategic skills as well as being able to operationalize strategy into concrete action-plans and deliverables in the context of a venture.

  • Strong project-management skills.

  • External perspective, open-minded, outside-in.

  • Technology background/affinity in the relevant areas for Philips.
