In this role, you have the opportunity to
help us provide a world-class IT environment for our researchers & developers, provide advice on IT related questions/problems, apply your knowledge on virtualization, the Linux and Windows Operating Systems, continuously innovate the IT environments and services that we offer to our customers.
You are responsible for
Keeping our IT Infrastructure related services up-and-running;
the virtual hosting service, especially the Linux support (Redhat, CentOS, Ubuntu, …), including the necessary tooling for monitoring, configuring, etc.;
Planning and documenting your activities including technical documentation;
Monitor the health of the environment and take proactive steps to ensure reliable availability and performance;
Work with, and manage escalations to the supplier to resolve issues that impact normal operations of the environment;
Participate in customer meetings at operational level.
You are a part of
the “TA and IT for R&D” group. This is a global organization with a staff of more than 100 people. These people are spread across the globe and form a real team. We strive to leverage the benefits of a global team by sharing best practices and leveraging multi-timezone availability. Locally you will be working in a team with 6 others at the High Tech Campus on the support of IT infrastructure related services and the creation of new IT services for the R&D community.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
We are looking for someone who is passionate about IT infrastructure, who loves taking on complex problems and make sure our researchers and developers always have the IT infrastructure that meets their needs. Do you also have the following experience and skills?
A bachelor degree in in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent;
7 or more years of experience in the administration and support of:
o Platform Virtualization software, for example VMware and Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM);
o Linux Operating System distributions, in particular Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, Cent OS and Scientific Linux, including middleware, interfaces (e.g. networking) and underlying technical environment;
Solid experience with scripting languages such as python, perl, java, korn shell and bash are considered an advantage;
A real team player who will step in to help others and displays dedication;
Strong problem-solver who is able to analyze and solve difficult issues using innovative approaches;
Strong desire to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges;
Strong sense of responsibility for the perfect performance of the infrastructure within his/her scope.
