Philips Manufacturing System Architect – Director in Eindhoven, Netherlands

Responsibilities

  • The Principal Architect ensures the creation of manufacturing system architectures. He/she takes the whole E2E chain into consideration and covers all stakeholder demands;

  • Has an in-depth understanding of all products and applications of the Philips and external customers Business Unit/Category;

  • He/she delivers a fundamental contribution to the creation/renewal of system architectures for manufacturing systems. He/she initiates technological improvements and studies in consultation with other relevant experts. He/she defines design specifications for new complex manufacturing equipment/lines based on own insights or from other relevant specialists;

  • Maximizing the business case, balancing diversity versus commonality/reuse (flexibility vs. efficiency), enabling fast TTM and configurability for future products;

  • He/she is deeply involved in the technology forecasting process of the customer, which might lead to a roadmap for technological studies;

  • Define industrialization concepts for new products and define the architecture of new complex manufacturing lines;

  • Defining and realizing new equipment platforms;

  • Influencing the product design into ‘design for manufacturing’ and ‘design for assembly’, participates in Design Reviews;

  • Responsible for the whole concept of a manufacturing line on system level. Responsible for the integration of sub-concepts;

  • Gives advice on make/buy decisions of parts or solutions;

  • Continuously expanding the technical expertise of his/her dedicated core competence. For this he/she maintains a broad network of specialists intern and outside the company;

  • Coaches other architects, interacts with peers, exchanges best practices within the Architecture Community and performs Architecture Assessments.

  • Has a detrimental role in the acquisition phase to create the best concept concerning quality, cost and lead-time.

  • Teaming-up with the account team to win the project in the acquisition phase

This role requires a high level of flexibility with regards to travel and staying abroad. The duration and frequency of these stays is not predictable, but high frequency and/or a stay for a longer period of time has to be taken into account.

You are part of

Philips Innovation Services, Manufacturing Systems & Technologies and in this role you report to the Department Head of Manufacturing Systems & Technologies.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Bachelor or Master degree with more than 10 years relevant work experience within the manufacturing Industry

  • Knowledge of relevant development methodologies and (business) processes

  • Knowledge of domain, competitive situation and relevant core technologies

  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory technologies

  • Having shown to be able to align with multiple E2E stakeholders

  • Having addressed architectural aspects on subsystem / mono-disciplinary level

  • Knowledge of modern manufacturing equipment design approach and related tools

  • Good knowledge of structured process development

  • Knowledge of medical industry, including standards and regulatory requirements in Healthcare

  • Networks with colleagues internally and in universities and R&D centers

  • Analytical skills, architectural thinking and creation, switching from helicopter to detailed view

  • Influencing skills, team player, networking skills, negotiation skills.

  • Strong communicator (writing & speech), being able to communicate on all levels.
