Philips Principal Scientist - Thought Leader Clinical Workflow in Eindhoven, Netherlands


In this role, you have the opportunity to

Drive the innovations in the Clinical Workflow and/or Operational Management in a clinical domain, preferably in the field of Oncology. You are the one who will connect clinical research with industrial product development needs for Philips. This entails working with external clinical partners, internal business partners in Philips, and the multidisciplinary teams in Research. Your know-how of how a department in the clinic is managed and executed will be the input for setting strategic direction to build solutions in Informatics and Services. Your know-how will lead to generating new ideas and propositions through providing novel insights in a clinical area, preferably in Oncology. All with the aim to support clinical partners to drive efficiency in the execution of clinical care for patients. You get the opportunity to build the competency area in Clinical Workflow and/or Operational Management and support leading a team of researchers on a functional level.

You are responsible for

  • Delivering state-of-the-art know how on Clinical Workflow and/or Operational Management in a Clinical domain, preferably in Oncology, to Research and the business partners in Philips using your knowledge and experience in this field;

  • Driving and executing the vision in the area of Oncology by creating long-term winning innovation strategies, consistently generate new relevant ideas and translate these into concrete research proposals for new integral solutions;

  • Acting as trend watcher and champion for outside-in innovation, by building and keeping strong external relations with peers in the clinical domain and monitoring and analyzing important trends and customer needs;

  • Connecting to, working in close alignment with, and thereby influencing the innovation roadmaps of the business partners in Precision Diagnosis Solutions within Philips;

  • Taking part in the execution of research projects to ensure high drive to deliver results on time;

  • Guiding a team of researchers from a clinical workflow management point of view, including coaching your colleagues, to take the team to high performance.

You are part of

Philips Research, one of the largest industrial research organizations in the world, focusing on the area of Health technology. Philips Research is a global organization that helps Philips introduce meaningful innovations that improve people’s lives. We provide innovative concepts, technologies, applications and integrated solutions in Oncology with focus on Oncology informatics, Image-Guided Iinterventions and Therapies, Medical Imaging, and Integrated Diagnostic Informatics. As a Principal Scientist, you will work in an agile way, join multi-disciplinary project teams and actively participate in collaboration with hospitals as well as Philips’ market and business teams. In your role, you are based at Philips Research Eindhoven on the High Tech Campus in The Netherlands and report to the Oncology department head.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • You have proven know-how in Clinical Workflow of a hospital department, most preferably in Oncology, with 5 – 10 years of experience in a hospital setting, OR,

  • You are leading a Clinical Department, preferably in Oncology, as head of this department, or you are in a management role of such a department, in a medium to large size hospital;

  • You have an Academic grade or you have comparable experience, holding a PhD is a plus;

  • You are an effective network builder within the Clinical area, but also towards Business partners;

  • You have strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills plus your team spirit enables you to build lasting personal relationships; within internal project and program teams; with clinical customers and healthcare professionals; with key partners in markets and business;

  • You become a role model within Philips Research by behaving as a leader of Philips, embrace our Research growth culture and Philips values, committed to deliver on plans and be a source of inspiration within our research community;

  • Your experience in marketing and/or healthcare economics is a plus;

  • Your experience with industry or in an industrial work setting is a plus.
