Philips Senior Architect & Function Developer in Eindhoven, Netherlands

In this role, you have the opportunity to

be the centre point of contact for the technical solution and execution of product propositions and platforms. You will drive and develop technical / technology options to meet consumer needs and business requirements, individually and in the team.

You are responsible for

  • Translating project objective(s) from benefits and/or step improvements into corresponding functional requirements (targets), considering all valid use-cases, product reliability, design robustness, cost and manufacturability

  • Managing the end-to-end product requirements and verification & validation matters related to technical solutions and execution of a product proposition or platform

  • Subject matter expert for Systems Engineering in medical devices development processes. Ensure that the development team correctly interprets and implements all product requirements during the different phases of the product development

  • Generating ideas & concepts, carry out feasibility studies, develop test methodology for verification of performance, demonstrate functionality & performance

  • Establishing cost and industrialization impact towards the creation of new products, functions and/or features, ensure that new functions are physically proven, robust and transferable for mass-scale manufacturing phase.

  • Working closely with the Regulatory Affairs Specialists / Architects to address Safety & Compliance and Regulatory Affairs aspects prior submissions, including responding to requests from Regulators and jointly perform effective Risk Assessment.

  • Ensuring Good Documentation Practice in line with local Quality Management System and ISO9001, ISO 13485, EU MDR and FDA requirements.

  • Defining requirements to conduct in-house / external verification testing: eg. Samples, critical review of protocols, reports, etc.

Innovation site Eindhoven is part of Innovation & Development (I&D) Personal Health. It focuses on the development of medically and non-medically endorsed lifestyle products. It is responsible for the end-to-end development and realization of new product propositions. The Innovation Site Eindhoven has the ambition to drive business growth by bringing existing, differentiating, new product propositions to market.

One of the key growth areas is the Mother and Child Care category (Philips - Avent), which encompass multiple sub-businesses such as Child Care, Breast Feeding Solutions and Secure Parenting & Digital. You will be reporting to the Group Lead Function & Product Development and will be working within a team of highly motivated developers at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • University degree within a technical field like Physics, Electronics, Mechanical-, Industrial- or Bio-engineering

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant working experience related to product creation, development and launch in a regulated environment (medical devices is a strong plus)

  • Knowledge of physics, thermal dynamics, flow dynamics & their applications, modelling physical behaviours so as to simulate real behaviour of a function and its requirements

  • Strong interest in product innovation, creative, hands on with strong roots in the theory & design of the demos

  • Good knowledge of product development and related manufacturing process (thermos-plastics, elastomers and rubbers) and competence in systems engineering and requirement management (via DOORS)

  • In-depth knowledge of quality and/or regulated industry standards (ISO13485 / FDA / MDD / EU) and knowledge of Good Documentation Practice

  • Qualification or training in Design for Six Sigma; experienced in using tools and methodologies such as dFMEA; CTQ flow down etc.

  • Good communicator and team player with the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
