In this role, you have the opportunity to

Work on advising research projects on privacy-related questions, guiding researchers through the privacy compliance review process (Data Protection Impact Assessment). Philips Research is advancing healthcare through digitization and data analysis. New platforms enable connected healthcare care and decision support for both patients and care providers. Technologies and innovations emerge in the area of advanced decision support making use of large amount of data generated by our consumers, hospitals and devices. You are responsible for

  • Assess systems and flows of data on data protection;

  • Define privacy requirements for research projects, including privacy-by-design architecture;

  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments to help projects assess and mitigate risks related to processing personal data;

  • Consultancy to research projects and management with respect to privacy;

  • Implement and review processes for (personal) data transfers into and out of Philips (quarantine, de-identification, re-coding);

  • Lead a specific area of the privacy domain: e.g., certain GDPR articles, privacy issues with children or employees, Working Party 29 publications;

  • Craft and/or deliver privacy training courses;

  • Business risk management: increasing privacy measures could lead to extremely high cost levels. A balance ought to be struck between expected risks and the involved costs;

  • Provide support in identifying privacy requirements and implementing them in the research domain.

  • External exposure (for example by means of participation to conferences and scientific publications) and external collaborations (for example with universities or in the context of European research projects) are highly encouraged.

More specifically:

  • Creatively architect and deploy new processes, services, templates and procedures that meet strict compliance requirements while facilitating innovative research activities in a timely fashion;

  • Champion Philips Privacy values while improving the company’s use and re-use of data in compliance with the Philips rules, international laws and practices;

  • Monitor law and regulations related to privacy and anticipate on relevant changes;

The mission of the Digital Platform Solutions team is to accelerate the creation of new digital propositions by providing deep knowledge and expertise on digital platforms, cloud and high performance computing (HPC), big data lifecycle management, privacy/security and R&D tooling.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • A MSc/BSc with proven records in applying and implementing privacy requirements in large/mid corporations

  • CIPP/E / CIPT / CISSP (or other similar) certification;

  • Deep understanding of GDPR/EU 95/46; Familiarity with ePrivacy Directive, FDA and FTC regulations, Dutch Data Protection Directive, HIPAA, PIPEDA, US Patriot Act, British Columbia Act 73, Breach Notification laws, ISO and other standards bodies and international standards;

  • Deep understanding of system integration concepts, platform strategies, cloud-based infrastructures and new IT technology fields;

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong personal relationships at all levels, both internal and external to Philips Research; with customers, obtain their user needs and be able to transform those into practical solutions;

  • Team worker in multidisciplinary and international settings, able to adapt quickly;

  • Go-getter able to quickly picking up new areas;

  • Proven ability to translate general managerial direction into proven results with minimal supervision.
