In this role, you have the opportunity to
provide Usability and Human Factors expertise and conduct evaluations throughout the design process in order to identify areas where usability, safety, physical ergonomics and the overall user experience can be improved.
You are responsible for
Working with global teams on the creation of an excellent user- and patient experience for our healthcare products. This will involve working on all stages of the User Centered Design process; everything from the initial research on user needs and workflow analyses, to providing human factors and usability evaluations for soon to be released products.
Being a role model to design and development teams in applying user centered design and in properly addressing Human Factors.
Creating, managing and executing usability evaluation plans to be performed across design and development of our products. Such activities are defined in cooperation with internal stakeholders in the Business Units and executed according to current standards on usability engineering to ensure compliance with European and American regulation (i.e. FDA).
Conducting usability evaluations (formative and summative), expert reviews, heuristics evaluations using established usability practices and methods. Report results, draw conclusions and make recommendations for re-design and usability requirements.
Consulting on physical ergonomics topics to internal stakeholders.

The Usability team is part of Philips Design and is based in the Eindhoven studio. We aim to improve usability and to deliver excellent user experience. We practice deep user empathy and champion the user throughout the design and development process. We work very closely with the other design teams such as product design, software design, UX design and also with our internal research organization. We are an ambitious team that drives thought leadership on usability throughout the organization.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
University Degree in Human Factors, product design or cognitive science with focus on Human-Computer Interaction and Usability, a grade / courses in Physical Ergonomics is a big plus
At least 5 years progressive experience as usability designer or related
Proven knowledge of human factors and usability principles
Experience with usability methodologies, processes and standards, and prototyping tools for evaluation and creating mock-ups
Knowledge and experience in applying user centered design and usability engineering, preferably to medical devices according to FDA regulation and standards (like IEC 62366-1)
Understanding design of experiments and statistical analysis
Experience in the end to end process of creation of products from requirements analysis to validation
Excellent analytical skills and ability of consulting and communicating results to multidisciplinary design and development teams
Understanding of Quality System Regulations (QSR), Risk Management process and Agile product development are nice to have.
