To accelerate our growth ambition of doubling our business by 2020 we are currently looking for a Software Engineering Lead to join our R&D team in maintaining and extending our software application architecture. Estimation, requirements analysis, problem solving, and detailed technical design will be key skills for this position. Clear technical and business communication skills are also essential as you’ll work alongside a team of highly-skilled front-end and back-end software engineers and test engineers.

You are responsible for

Working within the Cardiology Informatics (CI) R&D department, you are responsible for how the software is built, tested and delivered. This includes managing day-to-day operations around building and supporting solutions to enhance Philips’ Healthcare Informatics as well as overseeing recruitment, performance management and career development.

By providing strong technical leadership your primary responsibility is to the people in the team and empowering them to build great solutions whilst encouraging innovation and fun and leading them to build great things.

Your main challenges and responsibilities are to:

  • Increasing the innovation pace and transforming the group to a modern Dev. Ops environment in an on premise medical device environment;

  • Leading and coaching multiple engineering teams;

  • Providing inspiring leadership across software engineering to enable solid fast development and delivery whilst creating a culture of code quality, performance and agility;

  • Remaining a hands-on technical contributor spending a portion of your time on design, code reviewing, technical coaching and the occasional coding;

  • Ensuring our products and services are engineered to be secure, robust, performant, cost-effective and elegant;

  • Maintaining technical standards and ensuring adherence throughout the teams, focusing on SAFe agile practices and Lean Engineering concepts;

  • Establishing a great rapport with important stakeholders as Product Managers, Program Management Officers and Customer Operations to maintain a high level of visibility, efficiency and collaboration.

You are part of

You will be working in Cardiology Informatics (part of Healthcare IT Business group), reporting to the Head of R&D of the business. You will be part of the R&D Leadership team and own a number of full-stack engineering scrum teams working on our next generation products. The teams will be based out of our newly built office at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven – also known as the smartest square mile in Europe – where (large) corporates and startups innovate next to each other. You will have multiple local teams to manage with some staff being global.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • At least 10 years' of experience in a technology management role, with expert level knowledge in enterprise systems;

  • Track record in leading software engineering teams (>20 fte), establishing an environment that reinforces individual performance in support of overall organizational goals;

  • A solid technical development background, preferably with full-stack experience in building robust server-side web-based applications and bringing to market (on premise and cloud);

  • Deep expertise regarding software design concepts, practices, modern development methodologies, particularly agile, CI/CD, TDD/Clean code and common architectures;

  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud computing environments as well as experience in defining and delivering cost effective, agile, robust, and secure technology solutions;

  • Knows how to balance feature delivery and tech debt amortization as well as when, why and how to invest in automated testing;

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment, negotiate challenges, explain technical considerations and recommend solutions.
