Responsible for the design, realization and test of a system, subsystem and component; understands and communicates consequences of the design on the architecture.

• Develops the work with focus on consumer needs and technological competitiveness, and keeps this outside-in approach in mind for designs he creates.

• Develops on the basis of design specifications in accordance with the functional specifications and tests, analyses and verifies their performance.

• Finalizes the design specifications, schematics, drawings, codes and writes test scenarios’ for the developed modules or components.

• Draws up personal schedule and reports on progress in a structured and methodical way and is responsible for keeping the costs of the activities in line with the calculated budget

• Is responsible for delivering input in the planning process to the project leader. • Ensures that there is proper documentation for the developed hardware/software/mechanics.

• Combines existing and/or purchased modules into components, which can be integrated into the subsystem.

Bachelor of Science or related technical degree, or equivalent professional engineering experience

Senior team member, typically reporting to a senior manager or director and providing technical guidance to more junior staff. There is often international cooperation.

In this role, you have the opportunity to

As a Sr. Development Engineer in our Image Guided Therapy Business your will have the opportunity to build balloon catheter based Combination Products that save lives.

  • You will be working with a great team of dedicated experts in the Medical Device Industry and learn from our engineers, production team and manufacturing about our state of the art products.

  • The Research and Development team responsible for bringing new, lifesaving specialty balloon catheters to market

You are responsible for

  • Ensure successful design transfer for new product introductions

  • Equipment design and troubleshooting

  • Fixture design and troubleshooting

  • Experience with existing manufacturing technologies – e.g. extrusion

  • Experience in polymer and composite processing

  • Conceptualize, ideate, and create new products

  • Consider design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) concepts during the product design process to increase speed-to-market, production efficiency and reduce finished product cost

  • Evaluate designs through physical and virtual product testing including performing stress, thermal and tolerance analyses using software tools

  • Carefully consider and analyze concept part designs to ensure manufacturability

  • Manage product documentation including bill of materials (BOMs), design verification reports and engineering change orders (ECOs)

  • Assist in the development and execution of product test plans

  • Demonstrated ability in reliability engineering in a matrix environment

The Process Development team responsible for the process validation of Philips’ drug-coated balloons and scoring balloons, as well as the transfer of these products to the Operations group .

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

Bachelor of Science or related technical degree, or equivalent professional engineering experience - mechanical, biomedical or material science preferred.

5+ years "on the job" with the following:

  • Experience in full life-cycle product development

  • Experience in design for manufacturing in medical device industry

  • Experience in process development and validation

  • Experience in fixture and equipment design

  • Ability to use analytical techniques for design verification, problem and root cause analysis.

  • Strong applications background in polymer science.

  • Working knowledge of both FDA and CE design controls .

  • Ability to identify, evaluate and select appropriate process technologies and equipment to manufacture medical devices

  • Proficiency in the use of PC and programs, particularly Excel and Word to create procedures, work instructions, forms etc along with Minitab.

  • Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and written) both to senior management, customers and associates

Other key skills to succeed in this role

  • Ability to lead smaller project teams of 2-4 members
