Philips System Architect (Electronics) – Mother & Child Care in Hong Kong, Hong Kong

In this role, you have the opportunity to

Join one of our key growth areas: Mother & Child Care category (Philips Avent). You will be working for our Secure Parenting & Healthy Feeding sub-business at the MCC innovation site in Philips Hong Kong. As a part of the MCC product development team, you will be contributing to the innovation of (new) products, including the IoT smart devices for our digital parenting platform. You will be leading the technical execution of a product proposition, and be responsible for defining the product requirements, development and aftercare of innovative products.

You are responsible for

  • Product requirements definition, development and launch plus aftercare of innovation projects, driving design review and development with OEM/ODM manufacturer and in-house factories, including lifecycle product quality improvements;

  • Technical leadership in all electronics aspects of product development, launch and maintenance stage process. Design, analysis and testing of systems and sub-systems, problem-solving in design and providing guidance to internal team and external vendors, OEM/ODM ensuring robust end-to-end design (DFSS) to fulfil quality/reliability/safety and meet system requirements;

  • Design of electronic modules and products for the Secure Parenting and Healthy Feeding sub-business, including all electronic aspects of the product; Ensure optimal connectivity solutions using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth technology for our IoT products;

  • Relevant Design experience for Antenna and battery management is a strong plus.

  • Support electronic module upgrade, debug, optimisation, cost reduction, quality improvement in product lifecycle management;

  • Establish product electronics requirement from overall product requirement management; Translate technical requirements into product concepts and electronic designs/specifications, including system/module/component requirements in cooperation with internal functions and supplier engineering teams;

  • Drive excellence in CTQ definition; dFMEA analysis and Best Practice reviews. Use of critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Display a knack for complex problem solving by evaluating options and implementing solutions that address the root cause;

  • Report to the Head of Function & Product Development of Mother & Child Care.

The Mother & Child Care Innovation site in Hong Kong is part of the Innovation & Development (I&D), which focuses on the development of non-medically endorsed lifestyle products. It is responsible for the end-to-end development and realisation of new product propositions. The Innovation site has the ambition to drive business growth by bringing new product propositions to the market. You will be working within a team of highly motivated people. Location: Science Park, Hong Kong.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Degree or MS in Electronic Engineering; Minimum 5 years of experience in the relevant field of technical product development,

  • Proven experience in consumer electronics product development, integration of electrical components inside a mechanical embodiment (thermal management, EMC, wiring, PCB, software integration, display, etc.), from concept development to market launch with crucial involvement in the industrialisation phase.

  • Solid knowledge of PCBA development; Up to date knowledge on microcontroller technology; Experience with the design of low-power solutions;

  • Skilled in connected products, in particular in complex systems, digital, embedded software and connectivity, including up to date knowledge of wireless technologies like Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi;

  • Solid competence and experience on battery technologies, battery manufacturing and application in consumer electronics products, eg. Li-ion batteries.

  • Understand analogue electronics and have knowledge of controlling motors;

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels (fluent in English), nice to have Mandarin/Cantonese.

  • Experience in working with Far-East OEM/ODM external vendors. You’re well experienced in communication with suppliers for manufacturing, cost estimation

  • Travel in South China region: 25-30%
