Your Responsibilities

As the Head of Business Development, you are responsible for supporting the management team of the Business Group Sleep & Respiratory Care in shaping and executing its growth priorities. This responsibility relates to inorganic growth (partnerships, alliances, M&A, strategic investments) as well as major growth priorities (e.g. geographical expansion, adjacencies), to ensure profound impact on progressing the strategy and future direction and performance of the businesses.

Your initiatives and activities will be in line with the Business Group strategy.

You will work closely with our Business Leaders, Strategy teams as well as the Finance and Market teams.

Summarizing, the key areas of responsibility for the M&A / NBD – leader are:

  • Own and drive the inorganic growth agenda of the BGs, translating strategy (CAPs, GAPs) priorities into “buy” and “borrow” requirements – determine appropriate instruments to apply, e.g. JDA (Joint Development Agreements), Partnerships, Investments, Joint ventures or M&A.

  • Lead complex contract negotiations , working with multiple stakeholders as required; balance risk against performance.

  • Maintain a strong proactive portfolio of opportunities (i.e. well populated

“pipeline”) of sufficient incremental “value add” to ensure outperformance of inorganic goals and overall strategy.

  • Work closely with Business teams and Functional stakeholders to identify key questions to address; scope well-supported solutions with specific recommendations that will enable the Management Team(s) to make critical go- no-go decisions in a factual and considerate manner.

  • Develop strategic and financial analyses to support plans, initiatives and quality decision making.

  • Drive Philips internal (PiAC – Philips Investment and Alliance Committee – led) decision making process from our BG point of view – prepare input, secure agenda time and transact.

  • Own and drive the BG agenda for few big “build” activities , e.g. unlocking new Markets, Adjacent growth efforts and ensure R2W-collaboration with the Business, the Markets, the Functions. Manage – in close connection with Business, Markets – (selected) broader strategic relationships with partners, competition, customers and/or professional groups.

  • Initiate and manage industry level (inorganic) activities and use these to influence the BG MT agenda – ensure Business Development is an ongoing topic with the Management Team(s).

  • Be tightly connected to the broader Philips Business Development network to ensure "one face to the customer" approach and unlock Philips (vs. BG) level inorganic opportunities (e.g. "horizontals").

  • Facilitate the review of BD projects with management, make recommendations for action and ensure appropriate follow-up by management to achieve approved program, project objectives – identify and track relevant metrics of success and periodically report to management team on status.

You will be held responsible according to a preset KPI dashboard for (amongst others) target achievements, effective communication, growth and profitability, effectiveness of partner relations, new alliances and propositions, knowledge of market and industry trends, brand preference, stakeholder involvement and evaluation.

Your profile

We are looking for an international executive leader with:

  • Considerable success and demonstrated experience (>10 years) in Business Development / alliance management , product management or Consultant roles in the Healthcare and or Consumer Goods industry, up to speed on knowledge of the Healthtech Businesses, Technologies and Markets.

  • Experience in or close involvement with different inorganic growth strategies (M&A, investments, joint ventures, alliances) and translating these into plans and revenue growth for the partners involved.

  • Full and current awareness of investments and M&A-deals in the relevant BG domains, particularly where trends are an opportunity or threat to Philips.

  • Network in and a proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with start-ups and large multinational enterprises in the Healthcare and or Consumer Goods domain.

  • Working experience in a multinational, quickly transforming environment; comfort working in large, global, matrix organizations and driving decision making in such a fast-paced international environment.

  • Inspiring stakeholder management skills that influence, motivate and engage colleagues, customers and other stakeholders; ability to drive change and promote a sense of urgency at all levels internally as well as externally.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced environment and to project-manage campaigns in a structured way; track record of delivering tangible and value added business impact – great at execution : results-driven, detail-oriented, organized self-starter.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with an ability to speak effectively to business development leaders, executives, product managers and engineers.

  • Strong skills in strategic analysis and planning.

  • Excellent English language skills (both written and spoken).

  • A University Degree, Bachelor degree (eg in Technology/Sciences) and Masters in Business Development, Business Management or equivalent.

Your team

The leadership team for the Business Group SRC is based in Pittsburgh, North America. The Head of Business Development will serve as a member of the leadership team and reports to the CEO of the Business Group. You will cooperate very closely with various stakeholders, both based at headquarters and in the markets. You will have a significant impact on strategic priorities and work with a broad range of people in a large variety of teams throughout the organization. The role involves a considerable amount of travel.

In this role, you have the opportunity to

Lead Business Development focused on sophisticated alliances and solutions with a variety of partners. You will lead the creation and implementation of the Mergers & Acquisitions and new business development strategy strengthening the competitive position and accelerating sales growth of these Business Groups. You will use strategic partnership with the various Business Groups. You will provide leadership to drive the alliances plan, including forecasts and AOP.
