Philips Mechanical Staff Engineer in Monroeville, Pennsylvania


In this role, you have the opportunity to:

Design and develop new products intended for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and other sleep disorders. The use of strong judgment and experience will be required to ensure product innovation, quality, schedule, and cost targets are met. The individual will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing of several types of systems (such as masks, blowers, and diagnostic equipment) that are designed for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

You are responsible for:

  • Designing, analyzing and testing of systems and sub-systems.

  • Actively scheduling, organizing, and leading project meetings and design reviews to present ideas, concepts, results, and status.

  • Putting to use critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Evaluating options and Implementing solutions to complex problems

  • Must be able to thrive in a fast paced, team oriented, new product development environment.

  • Mentoring of junior engineers on technical issues, problem solving strategies, and engineering principles.

You are a part of:

​​​​Philips Respironics Sleep Apnea Research division working on designing, prototyping and testing innovative solutions for Sleep Apnea treatment. As a global leader in Sleep Diagnostic and Therapy solutions, we are passionate about providing patient-driven designed products that help patients lead healthy lives and, for providers, solutions designed to increase patient adoption, long-term use and enhanced efficiencies that help them attend to patient’s needs.

This role will initially be based in our Monroeville office. Philips will be relocating at this office to a new site in Bakery Square at , one of the premier locations in Pittsburgh. This is a very exciting time to be joining Philips, as this new location will be the Sleep & Respiratory Center of Excellence. The new office is set to open in late 2020.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.

  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience is required.

  • Prior Project Lead responsibility in new product development.

  • The candidate must have a demonstrated history of engineering design work, preferably in a medical device industry.

  • Design of injection-molded and elastomeric parts.

  • Part and component design for mechanical performance.

  • Understanding of design for human factors and ergonomics

  • Determination of concept feasibility via sound engineering judgment and prototype evaluation

  • Knowledgeable with CAD, FEA, CFD, and injection molding simulation software

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for reporting project status & conducting design reviews

  • Composure, conflict management, timely decision making, listening skills, self-motivation, and perseverance are all requirements of this position.
