We are looking for an Advanced Development Lead working within Innovation Team Homecare – Air in Shanghai to make category growth ambitions to happen.

Your challenge

As an Advanced Development Lead:

You will lead and further strengthen the Advanced Development team chartered to work on first-of-kind new concepts, new propositions and new technologies.

You will define and develop new product propositions together with your team and experts from cross-functions. You will translate consumer and business requirements into viable technology options providing differentiating product propositions.

You will need to use in-depth technical knowledge to work with your team while being able overview business and commercial aspects of your assignment.

You will need to best use talents of your team while taking strong ownership and responsibility for the proposed development directions leading to successful project completion.

You will apply best practices; focus on closing knowledge gaps as well as defining design rules and improvements.

Your team

You are going to work in a dynamic Air Innovation team consisting of functional departments responsible for marketing, design, product research, function development, architecture, mechanical and electronic development.

You will be the people manage of the advanced development team (pre-development team) consist of talent with profiles like scientist, specialist and function developer.

Your role further includes leading the AD activities and projects with a team of 4-8 cross-functional experts.

You will support the Innovation lead of Air to oversee the AD program of Air business and guide other AD members.

Your team will be mainly located in Shanghai but you will need to collaborate with Marketing Teams & your peers in Europe, external partners and industrialization teams located in Asia.

Your responsibilities

As a AD/pre-development lead you will be steering multi-disciplinary team and your responsibilities will be:

  • To lead and develop a strong team for AD/Pre-development and drive continues improvement

  • To lead technology development (function development) for the defined value propositions

  • To derive and manage requirements flow down in AD program and your project; consumer, functional, supply and design requirements for defined value propositions

  • To deploy, follow AD/pre-development I2M processes in a controlled way by managing required deliverables timely, at the right quality and at the right costs

  • Together with your multi-disciplinary team to work out development logic and approach into a realistic planning; visualize decisions to be taken and knowledge gaps to be closed

  • To deliver right level of burden of proof of functional evidence such as consumer / business feasibility, robustness and durability of components, modules and products

  • To ensure proper team dynamics and cooperation between functions; stimulate discussions, understand and challenge the content provided by individual team members

  • To clearly communicate and report project status, results and identified risks to stakeholders in both comm-cells as well as through PRM (project review meetings) on a regular basis

  • To manage resourcing of your team by aligning project demands with functional resource managers via ‘carousel meeting’ building thereby a strong winning team

  • To manage project budget planning in QlikView according to the forecasts

  • To identify and improve WoW and development approaches to a higher level by application of DfSS methodology and lean principles

  • Optionally to support innovation programming process via active contribution to sub-category strategy and roadmapping

We are looking for

We are looking for a candidate with a mix of strong Technology (Mechanical Engineering / Product Development / Mechatronics / Electronics background), Project Management experience and with good Business Acumen , preferably in pre-development environment where we focus on defining requirements, verifying functions and validating propositions. Candidate with further people/competence management is a strong plus.

We expect the candidate with the following background:

  • Master or above of Science in disciplines such as mechanical engineering (or related field)

  • At least 5 years of experience in multiple aspects of pre-development, design or manufacturing of quality products

  • Proven track record of good business understanding and business acumen. Can link and bridge the consumer needs/proposition, business needs and technology development.

  • Proven track record of project management; experience in at least single project in project lead role. PMP certification is a plus but not necessary

  • Product development experience as Function, Product Developer or Constructor in consumer/consumable products

  • Leadership skills like asserting ownership, defining approaches and taking teams along with you

  • Drive for quality yet with pragmatic and ‘can do’ positive approach to a dynamic environment

  • Conceptual skills, logic driven and structural way of working, preferably being familiar with lean tools; mindset and ability to convert variety of scattered inputs into coherent and rationalized proposals

  • Excellent communication skills – both in spoken and written English; Dutch is a plus but not a must

  • Interpersonal and influential skills towards technical and commercial people

  • A great deal of self-discipline and perseverance to deliver despite of challenging and often contradictive KPIs

  • Goal orientation with focus on project yet displaying flexibility to the overall and/or shifting business objectives

  • Ability to work under time pressure with sharp cost and quality targets

  • Knowledge of DfSS tools and methods

  • Experience of functioning in matrix organizations
