Philips Procurement Engineer (Mech) in Shenzhen, China

Procurement Engineer, (Mechanical), Healthcare Business

Location: Shenzhen

In this role, you have the opportunity to

  • Participate in new product introduction (NPI) projects, sustaining engineering, supplier performance challenges, savings projects, value engineering workshops and DfX programs.

Responsibilities:

(NPI support)

  • Represent procurement function in the NPI project team, work closely with X-functional resources (R&D, SQE, Operations)

  • Support or lead problem resolution related with suppliers.

  • Improve the components selection and design decision making

  • Support SQE for APQP implementation,

  • Lead supplier risk management improvement.

  • Manage lifecyle of components and related engineering change.

  • Ensure supplier readiness: suppliers deliver to specifications, schedule, cost and samples preparation per milestones, for assigned prodcuts or modules.

  • Execute and support phase-in planning.

  • Document Engineering change & related files.

(Operation support)

  • Closely work with operation/supply chain/in-house factories to make sure on-time delivery and quality calibration

  • Proactively drive supplier’s support on alternative sources, on-time delivery and efficient stock management.

  • End-of life components management and alert, supply performance improvement.

  • Actively involve and quick response towards delivery and quality related issues management and problem solving.

  • Strong support to business team to maintain and improve

  • Compliance improvement programs,

  • Business or factory audit.

  • CAPA actions follow-up.

  • In/outsourcing activities (knowledge transfer, supplier ramp-up, etc)

(Lead cost savings activities)

  • Drive product cost reduction through Dfx/Value Engineering, supply chain optimization continuously for running products and existing supply bases, and new products development.

  • Initiate and lead cost savings program and reach cost savings target, in-line with business priorities.

  • Closely work with commodity team /supply account manager, and lead RFQ/cost engineering/supply base consolidation improvements, scouting, sourcing, benchmarking under authority.

Qualification:

(Education)

  • BS or above in Mechanical engineering or related field with strong technical and engineering understanding, MS preferred.

(Background)

  • Above 5+years working experience in a high mix assembly type industry, such as Medical industry, EMS) in R&D, NPI, Project management, Procurement/sourcing function. Experience in the healthcare industry preferred.

  • Up to date knowledge and experience in purchasing function in Mechanical higher level assemblies (HLAs), injection molded plastics, sheet metal fabrication, castings are a plus

(Competencies and skills)

  • Strong commercial sense of cost savings is required. Understanding the approaches of Value Engineering, Dfx (design for excellence) is preferred.

  • Experience of supplier quality improvement and executing APQP (advanced product quality planning) is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills to work with internal and external contacts at all levels within the organization; be able to articulate own thoughts convincingly both verbal and written form.

  • Good and language (English & Chinese) skills in both verbal and written is a MUST.

  • Able to work independently under pressure, be self-motivated and performance driven.

  • Flexible to lead telephone conference with stakeholders in US and Europe in late evening or early morning.

  • Travel upto 20%

A professional Procurement Engineering Team with around 10 peers in Shenzhen.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • Education: BS or above in Mechanical Engineering or related field with strong technical and engineering understanding, MS preferred.

  • Experience: Above 5+years working experience in a high mix assembly type industry, such as Medical industry, EMS) in R&D, NPI, Project management, Procurement/sourcing function. Experience in the healthcare industry preferred.

  • Latest experience in purchasing function and rich knowhow on plastic injection industry and metal commodities are plus.

  • Competencies and skills:

  • Strong commercial sense of cost savings is required. Understanding the approaches of Value Engineering, Dfx (design for excellence) is preferred.

  • Experience of supplier quality improvement and executing APQP (advanced product quality planning) is a plus.

  • Good English and Chinese language skills in both verbal and written is required

  • Working independently under pressure with self-motivation and performance driven is required.

  • Travels can be maximum 50%.
